Excessive sweating mostly affects palms, face, and feet.
This medical condition can prove embarrassing for several people. It may also
hamper your ability to work. It is a rare medical condition but according to a
recent survey, nearly 2.8% of the total world’s population is suffering from
the problem of excessive sweating. The problem is massive in Asian community
and various other countries. Half of the total people suffering from this
problem resort to treatment, as the other half is not aware whether any
treatment is available or not.
Excessive sweating is called Hyperhidrosis in the medical term. There are two kinds of excessive
sweating problems faced by people viz., primary Hyperhidrosis and secondary
Hyperhidrosis. In the Primary Hyperhidrosis, excess sweating is caused due to
over working of the emotional stimuli. However, the doctors cannot determine
the exact reason until date. The Palmar Hyperhidrosis involves excessive
sweating in hands and Plantar Hyperhidrosis involves excessive sweating in
feet. Both the conditions cause embarrassment however, sweaty hands causes
more. The Palmar Axillary Hyperhidrosis affects armpits and palms whereas
Isolated Axillary Hyperhidrosis affects only the armpits. However, Craniofacial
Hyperhidrosis is the least excessive sweating form that affects face and the forehead.
Secondary Hyperhidrosis is caused due to underlying medical
condition. These can be infections, endocrine disorders, neurologic,
malignancy, spinal cord injury, or any other medical condition. The treatment
would aim to cure the underlying condition first.
Various treatments are available for primary excessive
sweating condition. However, least comprehensive treatment options aiming to
relieve symptoms are preferred by most people. People who are severely
suffering from this medical condition are advised surgery. For Secondary
Hyperhidrosis, treatment for underlying medical condition is sought that causes
excessive sweating.
